French Night at Chez Pascal, 13 August
Twenty enthusiastic members and friends had a riotous night at eponymous Chaine Member Philippe’s celebrated restaurant, Chez Pascal in the French suburb of Sans Souci. Philippe designed the meal in anticipation that participants would bring along some superb French wines. They did and the meal - Rabbit and Quail Terrine in Cumberland Sauce, Prawns and Lobster in a Cream Sauce, a spectacularly tender Double Veal Chop, decadent double Brie and Phillipe’s signature Crepe Suzette - suitably rose to the high standards of the wines.
The ‘feel�of the evening was a mixture of Chaine formality, including Chaine Regalia, and an enthusiastic sense of relaxation. The arrangement of three large tables allowed for group discussion of the wines. One table, hosted by Vice-Charge de Mission Fred Shaw, considered that it had the best wines but the other tables gave this table a run for its money.
